In this district of “Zamoskvorechye” - which can be translated as “beyond the Moskva river” - the atmosphere is completely different from the one of the city center and its Kremlin. Here, Moscow has kept its provincial and colored character. Its mansions, sometimes made of wood, stand in the middle of lovely gardens, are the witnesses of the past. The main street of the district, with a strange Tatar name, used to be populated by simple people who were working to earn their living: soldiers, craftsmen or merchants.
