Description
The “Russian Versailles” and the symbol of Russia’s elevation to a position of power within Europe, the Peterhof Palace is, without a doubt, one of the most sumptuous palaces within Russia. With your guide, discover the magnificence of the Imperial palace and its Gardens, in which the fountains are some of the greatest curiosities.

Languages availableFrench, English, German, Spanish, Italian (choice during check-out)

The Palace, situated 30 km from St. Petersburg, built by the architect Pierre le Grand, and celebrating the god Neptune, is both an architectural and historical masterpiece. The summer residence of the Czar, but above all, a symbol of Russia's accession to the rank of a great European maritime power, Peterhof Palace aimed to spread Russian art and culture throughout Europe. Intended as a "Russian Versailles", the palace of Peter the Great was built on the banks of the Baltic, and connected to the Gulf of Finland by a long canal in order to celebrate the Russian victory over the Kingdom of Sweden. On more than three kilometers of coastline, the Peterhof Palace offers visitors the magnificence of its architecture, and its gardens whose fountains are one of the greatest sights to behold.

Your guide will help you discover the treasures of this Imperial residence, and relate interesting stories of the palace and the czars who resided there. You will start your visit at the Upper Garden and discover the superb Neptune Fountain and the palace’s chapel. You will visit the interior of the palace where you will most notably see masterpieces of art and portraits of the Romanovs. With your guide, you will linger at the Grand Staircase before entering the large ballroom. You will discover a majestic room with numerous mirrors and gilding. Your guide will then take you to the Blue Room where you will learn more about the porcelain chandelier. You will end your tour of the interior of the palace in the Crown Room with its Chinese silk panels, and the Throne Room. Your guide will help you discover the secrets of this room where the czars of Russia ruled, and where many portraits of the Romanovs still hang. You will complete your tour in the Lower Gardens and the thematic gardens. With your guide, you will discover the Grand Cascade and the view of the maritime horizon, in itself worth the visit to the Peterhof Palace. In the summer, you can travel to the palace by hydrofoil, and let yourself be sprayed by the fountains, some having been designed for this very purpose.

For its interiors and its sumptuous gardens, the Peterhof Palace is an essential visit for any stay in St. Petersburg!
